  38. QUICK START FOR VERSION 2.0
  39. ----------------------------

  41. 1) Run the install program DAINSTAL and follow the on-screen prompts.  
  42.    (hopefully these should be self explanatory for most users) DAINSTAL
  43.    will copy the contents of the distribution disk to a directory that
  44.    you specify, so there's no need to create a directory and copy the
  45.    files manually, although you can still do this if you'd like; 
  46.    DAINSTAL will recognize that you did this and won't try to recopy
  47.    the files
  48.

  50.  
  51. 2) If you have a previous version of DaMenu installed on your computer,
  52.    DAINSTAL will ask you if you'd like to put version 2.0 in the same
  53.    directory.  Don't worry, all Version 1.x specific files will be
  54.    backed up just in case you'd like to go back to that version.
  55.  
  56. 3) If you decided to have DAINSTAL modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT, then reboot 
  57.    your computer once DAINSTAL has finished.  Otherwise update the path
  58.    statement manually, and add the command 'M' as the last line of the
  59.    file so that DAMENU comes up at boot time.  Reboot after saving the file.
  60.  
  61. 4) Type 'M' at the DOS prompt to bring up the menu. (If you didn't have
  62.    DAINSTAL modify your autoexec, you must be in the directory created in
  63.    step 1 above)
  64.  
  65. 5) Select a function key to associate an application with by simply pressing
  66.    that key.  At this point, all function keys should read "* This Space 
  67.    Available" and DAMENU knows that you want to setup a new application.
  68.    (If you opted to have menu alterations protected when you ran DAINSTAL,
  69.    then you will need to enter the ADMINISTRATOR'S password to enter/modify
  70.    an application)
  71.  
  72. 6) Type in the appropriate Application Description in the box provided.
  73.    If you know the filename of the application, you can enter it the
  74.    the space provided and have DaMenu search for the app, or you can browse
  75.    your disk(s), which, depending on the size of your disks, can be quicker.
  76.  
  77.    Select password protection and file-to-pass options (helpful for word 
  78.    processors) if you so please.  Choose OK.  That's it!
  79.  
  80. 7) Now hitting the same function key (once the application has been found 
  81.    successfully) and Voila!!  You're in your app!  That's it!
  82.  
  83. Menu modifications can be made to an existing function key by hitting the 
  84. ALT key combined with that function key.  Protection on exiting to DOS 
  85. can be made by selecting ALT-F10.
  86.  
  87. The initial password is DAMENU, and can be changed by re-running the 
  88. installation program (don't worry, DAINSTAL knows that DAMENU has been 
  89. installed already, and will bring up a different menu) DAINSTAL can be 
  90. invoked from within DAMENU by pressing ALT-I while in the menu system, 
  91. or by using the 'Short Cut Mouse Menu'-- Hold down the left mouse button, 
  92. then tap the right mouse button.  The mouse menu will then appear.

  94. The banner text, protection for menu modifications, screen blank delay 
  95. as well as the application password can all be modified through DAINSTAL, 
  96. which is password protected (if you protected alterations).  
  97.  
  98. If at some point you'd like to return to version 1.x after trying V2.0,
  99. that's also available in DAINSTAL's menu once V2.0 has been installed.

  106. KNOWN INCOMPATABILITES

  109. ***** 4DOS and NDOS
  110.  
  111. During the Beta Test stage of DaMenu V2.0, several users had problems with
  112. the installation while running 4DOS or NDOS.  These are COMMAND.COM 
  113. replacements that have added fuctionality over regular DOS commands.  I've
  114. downloaded a copy of 4DOS 5.0, and installed it on one of my development
  115. machines 'right out of the box'.  I didn't have any problems with either
  116. DAINSTAL or DaMenu.  More advanced users of 4DOS and NDOS may have different
  117. configurations, both for the software and boot-up system, and thus may run  
  118. into problems.

  120. ***** QEMM V7.0
  121.  
  122. Also during the beta stage, QEMM V7.0 gave some users problems, specifically
  123. with the MEM and CHKDSK commands.
